What subjects do you teach?
I teach Horticulture at Merrist Wood. The main topics I cover are Plant Propagation and Plant Maintenance.
How many years have you been teaching?
I have been involved in education since 2014. Previous to Merrist Wood, I worked with a charity organisation designed to get young people trained and established in the Horticulture industry.
What do you enjoy about teaching adults?
I enjoy helping people realise their own potential and seeing them gain the confidence needed to apply the knowledge they acquire while with me.
What got you into horticulture?
I spent time working in the industry on a part time basis when I was a school leaver. I tried other career paths for a few years but nothing gave me the satisfaction I gained from work in Horticulture and landscaping. For this reason, I returned to study as a mature student. Since completing my degree course, I have been employed full time in the industry. I am proud of what I have achieved and endeavour to convey this to everyone that is interested in learning about it.
What other passions do you have?
I care about the environment.
Why should someone join your classes?
Activate Learning classes are a very good way for adults to have a taste of what is to offer at Merrist Wood College. The courses are very good value and are delivered in an environment that is steeped in history at the site.
