Electrical Installation Level 3 Diploma (P/T)

Course overview

This qualification provides progression from City & Guilds 2365 Level 2. It’s aimed at candidates who want to work as electricians in the building services engineering sector.

This course is intended for those already employed in the electrical industry or operatives with an engineering background wishing to transfer their existing skills to the electro-technical sector.

You will learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the electrotechnology sector.

Please note: This qualification does not make candidates fully qualified electricians. Additional training will be required.

Topics included:

  • Understand the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
  • Principles of electrical science
  • Electrical installations: fault diagnosis and rectification
  • Electrical Installations: inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Electrical systems design
  • Career awareness in building services engineering

Classes will be led by tutors from the industry with vast experience across the electrotechnical sector. This qualification is very theory based and you will need to spend some time studying independently to maximise your potential of achieving the qualification.

You will be expected to undertake a minimum of twenty hours of self-directed research to complete the design assignment.

Examinations are a mixture of multiple-choice online exams and written papers.

There are three practical assessments:

  • Science (power factor measurement)
  • Inspection & testing
  • Fault finding

This course is intended for those already employed in the electrical industry or operatives with an engineering background wishing to transfer their existing skills to the electro-technical sector.

Please note: Completion of the Level 2 2365 Diploma is desirable before enrolling on this course. (Candidates with a Building Services Engineering (BSE) background may already meet the requirements of the Level 2 Diploma).

You need to have achieved a relevant level 2 qualification and have GCSE grade 4 in English Language and maths.

Candidates will require a current copy of:

  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations (Amendment 2: 2022)
  • IET On Site Guide
  • IET Guidance Note 3 – Inspection and testing

This course allows candidates to progress into employment, although not as a fully qualified electrician, or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services
  • Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology
  • Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
  • Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
  • Level 4 Award in Design and Verification of Electrical Installations

Completion of this course will not make you a fully qualified Electrician. You will need to complete a work-based NVQ and an AM2. Please speak to staff about this at interview.
