Life Drawing on Saturday

Course overview

This workshop supports all levels in developing observational drawing skills, sparking creativity, and exploring new approaches.

Led by professional tutor Hector Garay, each 3-hour session involves drawing from a live, unclothed model to study the human form. A range of short and longer poses will be included to help you build confidence and improve your technique.

The workshop introduces the basics of observational drawing, helping you develop a stronger understanding of the human form and greater skill in representing it. You’ll explore different approaches to drawing from a model, focusing on both detail and overall movement. Using charcoal, pencil, and experimental techniques, you’ll build confidence as you explore both traditional and contemporary styles.

Your tutor will offer guidance and suggestions at the start of each pose, along with individual 1:1 support while you work if needed.

You will also have the opportunity to share your work with others in the group and discuss any challenges after each pose, creating a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

Some previous drawing or painting experience might be helpful, as life drawing is an intensive method of studying both drawing and the human form.

Basic materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Please be aware that the session will primarily involve drawing in a standing position, although regular breaks will be scheduled throughout. A chair can be provided if needed.

You might consider the Experimental Still Life Painting and Drawing course to further progress your drawing and painting skills.
