Screen Printing on Saturday Morning
Course overview
This four-week screen printing course gives you the chance to work in a fully equipped studio at Banbury and Bicester College. You’ll be guided through creating multi-coloured prints, learning to use printing beds, screens, squeegees, and UV exposure. Depending on your experience, you can expect to produce between five and eight layered colour prints across the course.
This course warmly welcomes everyone, from complete beginners to those with more experience. You’ll be supported at your own pace, and if you’re already confident, you’ll also have the opportunity to work more independently using the studio facilities.
You’ll be guided by expert tutor, Hector Garay.
In this screen printing workshop, you’ll learn to create paper stencils and expose screens using a UV machine. After induction, you’ll plan designs, prepare screens, and print editions. Work may combine photographic and hand-drawn elements with layered colour.
You’ll share ideas and technical approaches in a supportive group, gaining inspiration from others’ work. You can follow the course structure or work independently after induction, exploring traditional or experimental methods. By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid understanding of the screen printing process and the confidence to work independently in a screen printing workshop.
This course warmly welcomes everyone, from complete beginners to those with more experience. You’ll be supported at your own pace, and if you’re already confident, you’ll have the opportunity to work more independently using the studio facilities. Please note that good upper-body mobility is helpful when using the equipment.
You may bring sketchbooks or drawings as a starting point, or work from ideas provided by the tutor. Basic materials are included. If you’d like to bring A4 images to copy, please ensure any digital editing is completed before the session – and do have a chat with the tutor in week one about your ideas.
Printmaking can be messy, so it’s advisable to wear old clothes. High heels and sandals are not permitted in the studio – please wear low, closed-toe footwear.
