Course overview

This course takes place in fully-equipped workshops in the renowned Rycotewood Furniture Centre, and all materials are provided.

You will have the opportunity to develop your DIY skills using drills and screwdrivers. There will be a maximum of 12 learners.

At the end of this 6-week course, you will take home your own hand-made windowsill herb planter!

You will learn:

  • timber selection
  • sawing
  • correct use of drill/ drivers and screws
  • glueing and assembling
  • marking out
  • finishing
  • Safely using a selection of hand tools

You will learn basic woodworking skills and gradually build up practical knowledge and confidence through workshop practise.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You only need enthusiasm and a passion for woodwork!

You are required to wear safety toe-capped shoes whilst in the workshop and we strongly suggest full-length trousers.

There are aprons, goggles, and ear defenders in the workshop that you are able to use but you are welcome to bring your own PPE if you prefer. It can get quite noisy at times.

City of Oxford College offers a broad variety of woodwork courses that will allow you to develop and build on your woodwork skills!
