Studio Photography for Beginners
Course overview
Learn studio photography in a practical, beginner-friendly course for adults.
This practical, hands-on course is designed for adults who want to explore studio photography in a supportive and creative setting. Over four weeks, you’ll be introduced to the basics of working in a studio environment, learning how lighting, composition and camera settings come together to create strong images.
The course includes the opportunity to photograph a life model, allowing you to practise working with a subject in a controlled studio setting while developing confidence and professionalism. No previous studio photography experience is required.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Understand the basics of studio photography
- Learn how to use studio lights and light modifiers
- Explore lighting setups for portrait and figure photography
- Practise working with a life model in a respectful and professional manner
- Improve composition and posing techniques
- Adjust camera settings for studio conditions
- Build confidence photographing people in a studio environment
You’ll learn through:
- Tutor demonstrations and explanations
- Guided, hands-on studio practice
- Structured lighting and shooting exercises
- Supported sessions working with a life model
- Individual feedback and group discussion
The course is relaxed, inclusive and focused on learning through practical experience.
No formal assessment—just creativity, learning, and enjoyment.
Please bring along:
- A digital camera with manual or semi-automatic settings
- Fully charged batteries and a memory card
- A notebook and pen (optional)
- Any relevant lenses you enjoy using (optional)
