Sewing: Build confidence in garment construction
Course overview
This sewing course is ideal if you’ve completed any of our sewing courses (Introduction, Improvers or Advanced Garments) or already have some prior experience with garment construction using a commercial pattern, but feel you need some assistance to complete projects accurately. Or perhaps you’re looking for a fully equipped sewing studio to work in alongside like-minded sewing enthusiasts. Either way, these sessions are designed for you.
This course is led by expert tutor Helen Cauvy-Foster.

You’ll benefit from working in a small group with lots of individual attention, delivered in well-equipped and professional workshops.
By the end of this course, you will have built confidence with your machine sewing skills and garment construction techniques following a commercial sewing pattern.
You will learn through informal, self-directed, practical-making sessions in our specialised sewing room, with one-to-one guidance from expert tutor Helen Cauvy-Foster.
You will need to bring along your own project: paper pattern, fabric and notions.
It is a good idea to bring a basic sewing kit:
- Fabric scissors
- Paper scissors
- Pins
- Tape measure
In addition, a notebook, pencil and eraser may be useful for note-taking.
You will be provided with up to 2 metres of calico and dot and cross pattern paper if required (included in your fee).
