Ring in a Day

Course overview

On this one-day workshop you will learn how to cut, shape, solder, file and polish silver; and will be able to wear your finished piece home!

City of Oxford College offers a range of jewellery courses. These courses might be of particular interest to develop what you learned on this workshop.

You will learn traditional jewellery making techniques, which include:

  • ring sizing
  • cutting
  • filing
  • shaping
  • soldering
  • polishing

You’ll learn safe working practices and a skill-set of traditional jewellery making techniques, which can be applied to future projects if you wish to pursue jewellery making.

Please bring a notebook and pencil for jotting ring sizes etc.

Please wear flat shoes. No open toes or high heels are allowed as this can be a hazard in the workshop.

There will be a break for lunch, so please bring a packed lunch and a drink.

You may wish to bring an apron/overall although this is not essential.

Please come with an idea of what you would like to make.

You will need to bring:

  • a sketchbook and something to write with
  • an apron/wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting messy
  • there is a one-hour lunch break scheduled, so please bring a packed lunch with you

You must wear flat shoes as this is a safety requirement.

Silver will be available to purchase on the day.
