Discover the joy of sewing in our immersive one-day workshop designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike! ‘Sew Much Fun’ is a hands-on, comprehensive course where you’ll master the basics of using a sewing machine while creating a beautiful, personalised tote bag to take home.

This course is perfect for beginners who have never used a sewing machine and those looking to refresh their basic skills in a fun, supportive environment guided by expert tutor Sara Fernandez.

By the end of the day, you will leave with a completed tote bag and the confidence to tackle your next sewing project. We’ll also tell you about opportunities to learn more beyond this course.

The course will cover:

Introduction to Sewing Machines: Get acquainted with the different parts of a sewing machine and learn essential techniques such as threading the machine, winding the bobbin, and adjusting stitch settings.

Sewing Basics: Understand fundamental sewing concepts, including fabric types, choosing the right needles and threads, and basic stitching techniques.

You will develop:

Project Planning: Learn how to plan your bunting project, from selecting and measuring fabrics to accurately cutting out your bunting shapes.

Sewing Practice: Gain confidence by practising straight and zigzag stitches, and mastering pivoting for neat corners and edges.

Assembling Your Tote Bag: Put your new skills to the test as you assemble and sew your tote bag pieces, adding any desired embellishments for a personalised touch.

What to bring:

  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!
  • A notebook and pen for taking notes.
  • Your own fabric (optional, if you prefer specific colours or patterns).
  • Please bring your packed lunch and refreshments!

All necessary materials are provided, including fabric, thread, sewing machine use, and pattern templates. We will use non-stretch cotton fabric such as craft or quilting cotton. However, you are welcome to bring your own fabric for a custom touch.
