Open Access Ceramics

Course overview

Welcome to our Open Access Ceramics programme, especially designed for intermediate ceramicists who are ready to work independently and develop their artistic vision!

This 10-week course provides dedicated studio time and resources for you to pursue your ceramic projects in a well-equipped, inspiring environment. 

Who is this course for? 

This programme is ideal for ceramicists who: 

  • have completed at least one beginner’s course in ceramics 
  • can work independently on projects and capable of basic techniques such as wedging clay, throwing on the wheel and hand-building. 
  • understand basic decorating & glazing techniques and correct firing temperature for work.
  • want to develop their own style and portfolio 
  • are comfortable working without supervision 

What’s Included 

  • 10 weeks of studio access (2.5 hours per week) 
  • access to wheels, tools, and hand-building stations 
  • firing services (bisque and glaze) 
  • storage space for works in progress 

You are required to pay for all work after it has been glaze fired. The additional charge for finished fired work is £5.00 per kg. 

Please note: This course runs term time only. 

 

Health & Safety 

While this is an independent study program, our technician will be present during studio hours to: 

  • ensure safety protocols are followed 
  • maintain equipment 
  • manage kiln operations 
  • answer technical questions 
  • assist with any emergency situations 

What to Bring 

  • your own tools if you wish 
  • sketchbook 
  • towels 

The listed fees cover the use of the facilities and the presence of our technician. They do not cover clay, the bisque and glaze firing of your work.
