Jewellery and Silversmithing AM (mixed ability)
Course overview
Do you want to learn how to make your own jewellery? This jewellery and silversmithing class gives you a broad knowledge of the different materials and techniques that are used in the jewellery-making process. You can then unleash your imagination!
Students will learn how to make their own unique pieces of jewellery through practical demonstrations and exciting activities. You’ll be guided by expert tutor Tessa Milne.
Silver will be available to purchase if you wish to make your jewellery using this material.
Please note: this course does not run during the half-term/end of term breaks.
There will be no class on Friday, 14 May, due to GCSE exams taking place. The length of the course and fees have been adjusted accordingly.
You will learn how to design and make jewellery using specialist techniques such as:
- sawing
- filing
- soldering
- forging and texturing
- wax carving
- sand casting
- stone setting
- cleaning and polishing
Intermediate and advanced students can work on their own designs, learning new skills along the way, fundamental to these.
You will learn by practising the processes on an individual basis at your own pace and you will get the opportunity to develop your skills according to your own specific needs.
Teaching methods include:
- formal instruction
- discussion
- individual tuition
- practical demonstration
- practical experience
There is no formal assessment, but your progress is monitored to encourage personal development and progression of skill level.
Join us as a complete beginner or with some experience. Each learner works at their own pace and level in a supportive environment.
Equipment is available in our jewellery/metals workshop and specialist metals can be bought from the tutor.
Please wear flat shoes—no open toes or high heels—as this can be a hazard in the workshop.
