Associate Artists Pottery and Ceramics: Advanced (AM)

Course overview

Associate Artists Advanced is for you if you have attended a pottery/ceramics class for two or more years and you want to develop your skills to a higher level. This could lead to self employment or progression to other specialist courses.

You will be expected to work more independently to achieve your aims but professional and experienced tutors are on hand to advise you and assist with using the equipment in our studio.

Re-enrol to keep on progressing and developing your work in our professional workshop.

Please note:The listed fees cover teaching and the use of the facilities. You will be required to pay additional charges for the bisque and glaze firing of your work.

Courses run term-time only.

 

The topics you can study during these sessions include:

  • 3D research and design skills
  • advanced hand building
  • throwing
  • mold-making and slip-casting techniques
  • glaze development
  • surface decoration
  • firing cycles
  • setting up your studio
  • Health and Safety in ceramics
  • costing and selling work

This is a non-accredited course but you will be taught Level 4 (Higher National Diploma level) techniques and processes through practical projects and demonstrations.

Teaching methods include:

  • Formal instruction
  • Discussion
  • Individual tuition
  • Practical demonstration
  • Practical experience

Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills according to your own specific needs.

You will need to bring:

  • a sketchbook and something to write with
  • a towel
  • an apron/wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting messy

You may wish to bring handcream and a dust mask. If you have sensitive skin, you may also wish to bring a pair of washing-up gloves.

You must wear flat shoes as this is a safety requirement.
