Health and Social Care Pre-Access Pathway

Course overview

This part-time, Pre-Access course is designed for students who want to develop their English, maths and study skills to progress to the Access to Higher Education diploma.

This qualification, awarded by Ascentis, is the Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Education and Employment

A variety of methods will be utilised:
  • Essay Writing
  • Practical Presentation Skills
  • Presentation Software
  • Research Skills for Academic Study
  • Word Processing Software
Biology units 
These units prepare for progression to our healthcare Access to HE pathways and provide transferable skills to humanities pathways:
  • The Investigative Process, Principles and Practical Skills
  • The Living Body
You will also have the opportunity to take English and Maths GCSEs as part of the course.

The course is taught through a combination of lectures, group work and independent learning activities.

The course is taught by experienced subject specialists and you will also have access to our library.

Assessment on this programme is through a combination of exams (approximately 30%) and coursework (approximately 70%).

Assessments are a mixture of:

  • essays
  • structured questions
  • projects
  • presentations
  • in-class practical experiments
  • examinations

 

There are no formal entry criteria, but all applicants will be required to complete English and maths assessments so we can place them suitably.
