Woodwork Intermediate: INTENSIVE Make a Contemporary Side Table

Course overview

This three-day intensive course is a great way to explore a variety of traditional fine furniture-making techniques over a short period of time.

Using a range of hand and powered tools, learners will create a stylish side table. You will learn how to select, measure mark and accurately dimension timber, create strong mortise and tenon joints and veneer and edge-band a tabletop.

This carpentry course is led by an experienced and qualified tutor and is held in the fully-equipped workshops of the renowned Rycotewood Furniture Centre.

Places are limited to a maximum of 8 learners and all materials and equipment are provided. 

 

The core skills taught during this course are:

Foundational Techniques: including accurate measuring and marking, timber selection and preparation, safe tool handling and maintenance and basic joinery principles. 

Hand tool techniques: using chisels, hand saws, bench planes, mallets, hammers and more.

Specialised Skills: such as creating mortise and tenon joints, veneering, ide Table wood finishing techniques, surface preparation and assembly methods and glueing up. 

Our experienced tutor will provide group demonstrations and individual instruction, guidance and mentoring within a supportive learning environment.

Perfect for those looking to improve existing skills by exploring a variety of traditional hand-tool woodworking techniques. 

All tools and materials you need are provided.

Please wear stout closed footwear and clothes that you don’t mind getting covered in sawdust. 

On completion of the course, you will be ready to pursue your own DIY projects and/or progress to one of our intermediate or advanced courses.
