With a lifelong passion for creating beautiful garments, Vee Tanner has been teaching sewing and dressmaking at Reading College and various venues across Surrey and Bucks for over 2 years. Her sewing classes offer a supportive and inspiring environment.
Vee’s love for sewing began in childhood, making clothes for her dolls. In her teens, she repurposed old sheets into stylish outfits, honing her skills with her mother’s sewing machine.
Her breakthrough came when her mother, a competition ballroom dancer, requested a custom-made dance dress. This experience sparked a love for intricate design, leading to commissions from other dancers and then bridal gowns.
In 2018, she volunteered as a costume designer for the Rickmansworth Players’ production of ‘The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.’ Her outstanding work earned her the Margaret Tabor Cup, and the show won NODA’s Flame Award. She has since costumed award-winning shows like ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Addams Family’ and ‘Nell Gwynn,’ and worked professionally with Italia Conti Theatre School on productions including ‘Grease’ and ‘Elf’.
Vee also leads the volunteer sewing team in the Inhabited Houses costuming project at the Chiltern Open Air Museum, creating historical costumes that are worn by the engagement team. Beyond sewing, she loves yoga and gardening.
