Our teacher training programmes can help equip you with knowledge of the latest pedagogical approaches, together with the confidence and experience to put your ideas into practice in the classroom.

There are over 76,000 job openings for teachers at all levels every year for the next eight years. 1.6 million people are forecast to be employed in teaching in 2021. Teaching career options span several age groups from nursery, to primary and secondary to further and higher education. A career in teaching is rewarding and means that you could make a positive contribution to people’s lives and society as a whole.

Finding your route into Teaching

Whether you’re starting out in teaching or want to develop your practice as a teaching assistant, returning to work after a break or making a career change, we offer flexible, effective, and local routes into teaching and education courses.

Introduction to Teaching and Training in an Educational Setting Route

New to working in an education setting or exploring the idea of going into teaching. The Award Level 3 in Education and Training course is an introduction to teaching and training and explores roles and responsibilities associated with the teaching/training role, in line with our unique learning philosophy. This course is a great foundation for any of our routes into teaching below.

Developing your practice as a teaching assistant and routes into Early years, Primary and Secondary Teaching

If you’re an experienced practitioner working in a primary or secondary school setting and wish to achieve a degree or pursue a career in teaching. The Foundation Degree in Educational Practice with the option of continuing study on to the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) (Top-up) in Education and Lifelong Learning will support you towards this goal. The courses are awarded by Oxford Brookes University and University of Reading. 

We also accept those with relevant vocational qualifications and experience who do not necessarily possess a degree

Activate Learning Maths and English Courses

Equivalency Testing - Maths, English, and Science

We can offer conditional offers for the courses if you are currently completing your Maths and English, but the qualifications must be obtained by the start of the induction week for the course.

Contact the exam board you completed your Maths and English with they will be able to send you replacement copies of your certificates for a fee.

If you completed your GCSEs from 2012, we able to run a personal learner record check to get confirmation of the results.

If you cannot get hold of your certificates through the exam board or PRL you will need to sit the qualification to get evidence that you meet the entry requirement.

You can apply directly from the courses on the website, just click the apply now button and complete the application process.

Before applying, please make sure that you meet the entry criteria and have copies of your certificates and support from your line manager or employer before applying.

We can offer conditional offers for the courses if you are currently completing your Maths and English qualifications, but the qualifications must be obtained by the start of the induction week for the course.

Once we receive your application you will be invited to an interview and an offer will be made.

Funding, fees and support

Our higher education programmes offer excellent value for money. Fees are competitive, and dependent on the programme and awarding body. The latest fees published can be viewed via the individual course pages.

Tuition Fee Loan

These are available to cover tuition fees for the full time Foundation Degree, BA (Hons) Degree and part time courses.
