Throwing on the Wheel
Course overview
This throwing on the wheel course is designed for those looking to hone and develop their skills using an electric potters wheel. Under the guidance of our expert tutor, you will learn all aspects of the throwing process from clay preparation to turning and refining your wares.
There will be a maximum of seven learners on the course so you will receive dedicated support and guidance throughout. All abilities are welcome; from beginners learning to throw or those wanting to improve and develop their existing throwing and decorating skills.
Each learner will have use of their own electric wheel. Work will be made in both earthenware and stoneware clays and fired in oxidation in an electric kiln.
The listed fees cover teaching and the use of the facilities. They do not cover the bisque and glaze firing of your work.
You are required to pay for all work after it has been glaze fired. The additional charge for finished fired work is £5.00 per kg.
You will learn:
- to wedge and knead clay
- a range of throwing and turning techniques
- making a variety of thrown forms
- about function, scale, and shape
- to make handles, lids and spouts
- different types of decoration
This is a practical hands-on course. Throughout the course, there will be tutor demonstrations, group discussions and one-to-one advice.
Please bring an apron and a towel. Tools are provided but you may wish to bring your own.
You are required to pay for all work after it has been glaze fired.
