Sports Massage Therapy Level 3 Diploma
Course overview
This sports massage course will develop all the skills and knowledge needed to offer outstanding treatments, gain employment within the industry or manage/start your own business. You will master technical skills and a range of massage techniques.
The VTCT Level 3 Sports Massage course is the ideal advanced vocational course for anyone interested in becoming a Sports Massage Therapist, seeking to gain a highly regarded qualification.
This qualification, once fully completed, will allow you to obtain insurance, providing you with confidence to work independently within the industry.

The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is focused towards those seeking to gain employment as a sports massage therapist working with the general public and athletes.
The qualification consists of five mandatory units:
- Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
- Principles of health and fitness
- Professional practice in sports massage
- Understanding the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
- Sports massage treatments
Through this qualification you will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to competently apply sport massage methods to dysfunctional tissue and in a pre, post, intra/inter and maintenance massage context. This includes professional practice, expected standards and related legislation and legal requirements.
You will develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to sports massage and the principles of health and fitness which combined will equip you to better understand the athlete, the problems they may be incurring and how sports massage can help. In addition, you will develop an understanding of the differences between soft tissue dysfunction and injury and the role that sports massage plays.
On successful completion of this qualification, you will be awarded: Level 3 Sports Massage Qualification.
How you will be assessed:
- Online theory tests
- Observations and Oral questioning
- Practical Assessments and Assignments
- Portfolio evidence
Models: You will need to have your own models for the practical assessments. At all other times during your study you will be expected to practise on peers within your group and build case studies outside of your timetabled hours.
A minimum of GCSE grade 4 in English is required.
The following equipment will be required:
- Massage Oil Kit and Massage Couch (Recommended for practise at home)
- Basic tools, products and kit will be supplied for on campus use.

You could progress to:
- Level 4 and Level 5 Sports Massage Therapy
- Physiotherapy
