Course overview

If you are looking to start sewing with a machine but have no or little experience, then this course is perfect for you.

Join us for a great introduction to machine sewing and making clothes for beginners!

By the end of this course you will understand how to determine clothing size and follow a basic paper pattern to make a pair of elasticated trousers with pockets.

You will learn how to complete a toile (a garment made in calico fabric used to adjust the pattern) and gain the confidence of make the trousers using a sewing machine.

You will learn through theoretical and practical sessions including:

  • key sewing and measuring techniques
  • garment adjustments
  • simple garment construction skills
  • how to work with easy fabrics

You will need a basic sewing kit:

  • fabric scissors
  • paper scissors
  • pins
  • tape measure
  • un-picker

In addition, you will need a pencil and eraser.

You will be provided with two meters of Calico (included in your fee). This course will take place on six consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6 pm until 8:30 pm
