Combining theoretical and practical learning to prepare learners with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to enter an early years setting work-ready.
The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry for the Early Years Workforce is designed to prepare learners with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to enter work in an early years setting and be included in staff:child ratios.
This qualification fully meets the Department for Education Early Years Educator (DfE EYE) criteria and aligns with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the Early Years Educator occupational standard in England.
You will study 10 mandatory units covering all aspects of early years education, including:
- child development
- safeguarding
- health and safety
- effective communication
- special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
- assessment of children’s learning
- promoting an effective curriculum
- understanding play
- partnership working
The course ensures you meet all the knowledge and skills required by the Early Years Educator occupational standard. It combines both theoretical and practical learning to ensure you are work-ready upon completion.
Learning is delivered through a blend of classroom-based activities, practical experience in real work environments, and completion of a mandatory work/industry placement throughout the duration of the qualification. You will link theory to practice, developing your skills in real early years settings.
Assessment is through an internally assessed and externally quality-assured portfolio of evidence. This includes a combination of written assignments and direct observation of your practice in the workplace. The grading for the qualification is Achieved/Not Yet Achieved.
- Learners must be at least 19 years of age
- You must already be working in an Early Years setting
- There are no additional set entry requirements, but individual centres may have their own guidelines. You must also meet the GCSE English and Mathematics requirements as specified for Early Years Educators
- You will need to be able to access a real work environment for your mandatory placement. Centres may advise on any additional materials or resources required for study and placement
On successful completion, you can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 3 Early Years Educator or progress to higher education or further professional qualifications in early years or related sectors.
The qualification fully meets the Department for Education Early Years Educator (DfE EYE) criteria and maps to the knowledge, skills, and behaviours within the Early Years Educator occupational standard in England
- The qualification is regulated (Ofqual number: 610/3984/6)
- It requires 564 guided learning hours (GLH) and 650 total qualification time (TQT)
- You must complete a mandatory work/industry placement before certification
- The qualification is eligible for funding
