This six-part online course, created in partnership by Activate Learning and Bioregional, is specifically designed for managers seeking to incorporate sustainability into their teams and daily operations.

The course provides an overview of essential sustainability concepts, benefits, trends, and actions, guiding managers in implementing sustainability practices at the departmental level.

Each module includes real-world case studies, actionable strategies, and practical exercises, helping you build a set of sustainability commitments for your team and align with broader company goals.

Throughout this course, you’ll develop a practical understanding of sustainable management practices through six in-depth modules, each covering crucial topics to support sustainability leadership in your role:

1. Introduction to Sustainability
Understand the definitions and fundamental concepts of sustainability, including the triple planetary crisis and why environmental responsibility is essential for business success.

2. Net Zero Leadership for Managers
Learn the basics of carbon emissions and how to measure and manage your team’s footprint. This module will help you set achievable, department-level net-zero goals and identify practical emission reduction strategies.

3. Embedding the Circular Economy and Technology
Discover the circular economy approach, focusing on how your team can move beyond waste reduction to reimagine resources, using technology to promote efficient and sustainable processes.

4. Nature-Positive Practices and Biodiversity
Gain insight into the role your team plays in supporting nature-positive business practices, and explore ways to integrate nature-based solutions that protect biodiversity and strengthen supply chains.

5. Promoting Ethical and Sustainable Operations
Learn how to foster a socially sustainable and ethical workplace. This module covers ways to engage suppliers and partners, promoting ethical sourcing and improving standards within your team’s operations.

6. Building Transparency and Engaging Stakeholders
Understand the importance of transparent communication around sustainability and gain strategies for effectively engaging your team and stakeholders to support sustainability goals.

The online course includes interactive and practical learning approaches tailored for managers, with each module offering:

  • Case studies that show how sustainable management practices are applied in real businesses.
  • Practical exercises at the end of each module prompt you to create team-level goals and integrate sustainable practices.
  • Commitment-building activities, allow you to set and document actionable targets for your team’s sustainability impact.

Assessment will focus on your participation in these exercises and your ability to develop a tailored set of sustainability commitments for your team, aligned with company-wide goals.

From the point of enrolment, you will have access to the course content for 3 months and will be able to download an e-certificate at the end of the course to evidence your learning.

Bioregional supports businesses and organisations to transition to a net-zero carbon, circular, and sustainable future, and works with partners to create homes, workplaces, and retail destinations that enable sustainable living.

Bioregional helped develop BedZED – the UK’s first major sustainable community in South London which was completed in 2002. From the learnings of this project, Bioregional created the One Planet Living framework with WWF – comprising ten simple sustainability principles with detailed goals and guidance on how to ensure we live within the planetary boundaries of our one planet, Earth.

Since then, Bioregional has accrued over 20-years’ experience working with a wide range of organisations from small businesses and charities to large multinationals on calculating their carbon footprint, setting net zero targets, and developing sustainability strategies and reports.
