GCSE English: Part Time Evening
Course overview
You will be assessed in three key areas: reading, writing, and speaking and listening.
You will also gain the ability to construct and convey meaning in written standard English. You will be tested through a combination of controlled assessments and external exams.
Please note: If you do not have a minimum grade of 4 (C) in English at GCSE, you may be able to study this course for free. This would also depend on your location within the UK, but we would check this for you during your application process.
If you have already obtained a grade 4 (C) or higher, or live in a non-funded postcode, a fee would be payable. The course is only open to students 19+ at the beginning of the academic year (31 August). Fees also apply for international students.
The course aims to develop your abilities:
- To communicate effectively in speech and writing
- To listen with understanding
- To be enthusiastic, responsive and knowledgeable readers.
You will have the opportunity to talk and listen in a variety of contexts. and read a wide variety of literature, non-fiction and media texts.
You will learn through traditional and e-learning methods.
You will need to be prepared for extra study and spend around three hours per week studying away from the classroom.
Resources will be provided (both paper-based and e-based).
In some cases, Google Chromebooks will be provided in class, where you can utilise live writing tools such as Google Docs and Google Communities.
Assessment is both within the college and by an external exam.
If you have not already achieved a grade 3 in English, you will be required to sit an assessment to check your suitability for the course. This assessment will be completed on campus at your Meet the Teacher event. You will receive details on how to book for your event as part of the application process. It is essential that you attend an event to complete your assessment and gain entry to the course.
