I want my classes to be fun and productive. Walking away with something you’ve made brings such joy to beginners.
What subject do you teach?
All the basics of Pottery! I cover hand building and throwing techniques, and with enough of these basic skills, students can take these forwards if they want to return and improve.
I also cover decoration with slip, underglazes, and glazing so that students get to walk away with usable pottery.
What got you into ceramics?
Like many people, I did some pottery classes when I was a child and dropped it when I was a teenager. Then, as an adult, I got the bug again when I attended the EXACT same course I now teach in Oxford – a few years later. With my garage now a pottery studio, I love teaching others to go on the same journey as me.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
Seeing students go from zero to hero and walking away with a mug is great – it’s all about them, allowing them, with some guidance, to start exploring their own imaginations. But mainly it’s just such a fun evening, really social, and all whilst gaining a skill.
Why should someone join your classes?
We have fun, we play with clay, you get to leave with a few things that you can use at home, and you gain a skill.
