Course overview
Would you like to learn another language and make the most of your next holiday?
We can help you develop the skills to communicate with confidence, enhancing your holiday experience! You’ll learn in a fun and supportive environment through a variety of engaging activities.
Discover your passion and learn Italian in a fun, relaxed environment. This language course for beginners introduces the language and culture of Italy. You’ll engage in various activities in a supportive setting.
You will learn to communicate effectively in everyday situations by utilising speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills.
On completion, you’ll communicate with native speakers using basic phrases in everyday situations. Topics include simple conversation, booking a hotel, ordering food, tourist info, directions, and shopping.
Semester 1 (Oct-Feb): No prior knowledge needed
Semester 2 (Feb-Jul): 20 hours of prior study

Please note: this course does not run during the half-term/end-of-term breaks.
You’ll gain the confidence to communicate in a variety of situations:
- Speak about yourself, meet and greet people
- Order food and drink, and ask for the bill
- Understand directions and book a hotel room
- Go shopping for food and clothes, and use public transport confidently
- Gain a basic understanding of grammar and learn about the culture of countries where the language is spoken.
Please note: This course does not lead to a formal qualification.
You’ll learn in a fun and supportive environment through a variety of engaging activities.
The tutor will use a range of resources (videos, games, role-plays, and handouts) to supplement the course book.
You will have the opportunity to practice using the language in real-life situations through fun and engaging role-plays and lively group discussions.
You will initially need a notebook and pens. Your tutor will let you know about textbooks and other learning materials that you may wish to utilise, so that you can gain the most from this course.
After successfully completing Semester 2, you will progress to our Improvers course.
All language courses run term-time only and are made up of two semesters.
