GCSE English: Part Time Evening

Course overview

Study a range of GCSEs to supplement your A Level AVCE or vocational studies and strengthen your portfolio of qualifications with this course.

If you do not have a minimum grade of 4 (C) in English at GCSE, then you can study this course for free, if you have already obtained a grade 4 (C) or higher the fees are £450 for UK students and £774 for international students.

The course aims to develop your abilities:

  • To communicate effectively in speech and writing
  • To listen with understanding
  • To be enthusiastic responsive and knowledgeable readers.
  • You will have the opportunity to talk and listen in a variety of contexts read a wide variety of literature non-fiction and media texts. In compiling a coursework folder and preparing for the examination students will develop their basic English skills necessary to achieve a grade C(4) or above.

You will gain a qualification essential for progress to many Level 3 courses including A-levels and Level 3 BTEC Diplomas. GCSE English at ‘C’ or above is also required for entry into teacher and nursing training and is demanded by many employers.

We expect students to attend regularly and to hand in work on schedule. This is essential for success on the course.

You will improve the skills vital for success in further study or employment, including: self-confidence, speaking in front of others, reading effectively and organising and structuring your writing for a range of purposes.

You will study using a range of techniques including group work independent study and homework.

You will need to complete an English assessment to determine the most suitable starting point for your studies.
