Tutor profile for Health and Social Care Performance Coach: Andrea Blackmore
Your learning journey will primarily be online, using a dedicated platform for accessing course materials, completing assignments, and tracking progress. You’ll receive personalised support from your coach through virtual Teams sessions, offering real-time guidance, along with face-to-face observations to assess your practical skills. The programme blends research, guided learning, and hands-on job experience, ensuring you effectively apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.
Your assessment will include written work, observations, professional discussions, and Q&A sessions. Your coach will evaluate the work you submit throughout the programme, ensuring you meet the required standards. Additionally, an Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) assessment will review your progress, followed by a final External Quality Assurance (EQA) check conducted by an independent assessor to validate your achievements and ensure the highest quality of your qualification.
END-POINT ASSESSMENT (EPA)
To achieve this apprenticeship standard, the employer, training provider, and apprentice will agree when the apprentice has developed all the knowledge, skills, and behaviours defined in the apprenticeship standard. This will be clearly evidenced through on-programme progression review meetings and records. The independent end point assessment ensures that all apprentices consistently meet the industry-set professional standard and can take place once the apprentice is deemed competent after the twelve-month minimum period of learning and development.
Before the independent end-point assessment, the Functional Skills English and maths components of the apprenticeship must be successfully completed, subject to any necessary adjustments. The performance coach is responsible for approving and appointing the assessment organisation to conduct the independent end assessment of the apprentice.
- You must be working in the care sector in a senior/team leader position, as you’ll need to demonstrate both competency and knowledge in real-world settings. This hands-on approach ensures you can apply what you learn directly to your role, enhancing your skills and understanding in a practical, meaningful way.
- You would benefit from having maths and English at level 2 or GCSE.
- Applicants must be over 16 years old and eligible to work in the UK.
To complete the programme, you must have access to a laptop and Microsoft Word. This is essential for opening course resources, completing assignments, and uploading documents. If applicable, you should be able to supply certificates of maths and English at level 2 or GCSE results. These tools will enable you to engage with the online learning platform, access to materials, assessments, and communicate with your coach. Ensuring you have these resources is crucial for a smooth and productive learning experience.

20% OFF-THE-JOB TRAINING
Since the introduction of new style apprenticeships in May 2017, it’s been a requirement that every apprentice spends at least 20% of their time on off-the-job training. The required 20% off-the-job training hours will be calculated via the apprentice’s contracted hours of work, holiday entitlement and length of the programme and will be clearly specified in our commitment statement. This requirement doesn’t have to be a daunting prospect – and doesn’t even mean the apprentice has to be away from their workplace 20% of the time.
APPRENTICE WAGES
Every apprentice must be paid a lawful wage for the time they are in work and in off-the-job training. The employer must meet the cost of the apprentice’s wages. An employer can only pay the apprenticeship minimum wage from the start of the apprenticeship programme and not before. You can find information on the national minimum wage, the apprenticeship rate, and the definition of an employee on GOV.UK.
