About this Skills Bootcamp

Would you like to change your career and become a fully trained professional bicycle mechanic? Bikes and electric bicycles (e-bikes) are becoming more and more important in our everyday lives as key modes of Green Transportation.

This training programme is aimed at people who are looking to become a qualified professional bicycle mechanic, able to carry out a wide range of bike servicing tasks on electric and non-electric pedal bicycles. On this green skills bootcamp programme, you’ll learn how to service and maintain a full range of different types of bikes.


Skills Bootcamps in Green Skills - Cycle Maintenance is made up of a number of the industry-leading Cytech technical courses, combined to create this Skills Bootcamp training programme. It delivers Cytech technical one, technical two and Cytech e-bike over a short block period in dedicated training workshops at our Activate Learning colleges in Oxford and Guildford.

Starting with the foundation Cytech Level 1 theory and practical course, learners then progress to the Level 2 course, regarded as the industry standard qualification for a professional cycle mechanic, before completing the technical e-bike course.

Course Content

The Cytech courses will take place in dedicated training workshops based in Oxfordshire or Surrey.

Course content:

Cytech L1 Theory: 1 day, delivered online

Cytech L1 Practical: 2 days, delivered at Oxford, Guildford, Reading and Bracknell

Cytech L2 Practical: 10 days, delivered at Oxford and Guildford

 E-bike Practical: 3 days, delivered at Oxford

Note: Candidates must complete ALL the above 4 courses of the Skills Bootcamp to receive Cytech certification.


  • The course is free for the learner. If you have been referred by your employer, the course is still free to the individual but the employer will pay between 10-30% of the cost.
  • You must be over 19 years of age.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
  • You must live in Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey or Oxfordshire.


This Skills Bootcamp is free to the learner, if you have been referred by your employer then is is an affordable investment for cycle companies.

If you are employed by a small or medium-sized cycle company, your employer will be asked to contribute just 10% of the total cost (£380). Employees of larger businesses, the contribution is 30% (£1,140). This ensures that the cost of training is shared fairly between employers and the government, making it an accessible option for businesses of all sizes.
