This Skills Bootcamp in Retrofit will cover the Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit along with Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings. Both qualifications have been designed to meet the requirements of industry.

Designed exclusively for people working in the professional trades, over eight weeks, you will increase your knowledge to interpret domestic retrofit and health & safety information, identify the materials required for work activities in domestic retrofit and the risk of damage to your work environment.

You will understand how to carry out basic domestic retrofit installations and understand how to retrofit and apply energy efficiency measures to older housing stock.

Adding these vital skills to your existing craft and joining the growing number of retrofit professionals will futureproof your relevance in an ever-evolving shift toward energy efficiency required for millions of homes across the UK.

A Skills Bootcamp in Domestic Retrofit with Activate Learning enables you to have a greater awareness of retrofitting to both standard housing stock and to older more traditional buildings. This course is 60 hours over eight weeks, consisting of six hours a week of tutor led learning (with additional self-study) and one site visit.

Course Overview

Domestic Retrofit is a comprehensive construction-based course related to identifying, recommending and installing energy-saving systems in people’s homes. This could include installation of wall and loft insulation, heat pumps and solar panels.

With a strong foundation and real-world experience, completion of this course equips individuals with the knowledge and expertise needed for diverse roles in the dynamic field of energy-saving technologies.

This Domestic Retrofit course takes place online on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (5:30pm – 8:30pm), there will be a requirement for 1 day’s attendance that will include site visits, with date and time to be arranged. You’ll be taught via a mixture of online sessions coupled with a site visit towards the end of the bootcamp. Each week during the online sessions your industry expert tutor will introduce you to the fundamentals of the relevant topic, work with you through common issues related to energy-saving technologies.

We are offering two start dates for this bootcamp:

Running 24th October 2024 until 19th December 2024

Running 20th January 2025 until 17th March 2025

All learners must have a background and experience in the construction industry.

Pricing

This Skills Bootcamp is free to the learner, and fully funded by the government if you are applying as an independent learner who is unemployed or not currently employed in a construction related trade.

If you are currently employed in the trades, your application will need to be supported by your employer (or business if self-employed)

Depending on the size of your employer (or business) the government will subsidise the cost of the course by 90% to 70%.

If you are employed by a small or medium-sized company, your employer will be asked to contribute just 10% of the total cost (£350). Employees of larger businesses, the contribution is 30% (£1,050). This ensures that the cost of training is shared fairly between employers and the government, making it an accessible option for businesses of all sizes.

The unsubsidised cost of this course would be £3,500.

Eligibility

You can study this domestic retrofit course for free if you meet the following criteria:

  • You must have a background and experience in the construction industry.
  • You must be over 19 years of age
  • You must have a trade qualification
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
  • You must live or work in Surrey
