Philip Newcombe

What subjects do you teach?

I teach life-drawing for both beginners and those who have had some experience. I also teach beginners drawing and painting.

How many years have you been teaching?

I have many years of teaching experience at all levels, from school leavers to adults. I have been a Fine Art Lecturer at Falmouth School of Art, Reading College and Hereford College of Art as well as visiting teaching posts at ZHdk, Zurich and University of West London.

What do you enjoy about teaching adults?

I teach in an open, friendly and relaxed environment. I appreciate that many people come back to art after years of ‘life experiences’ so I like to keep an open mind and welcome all.

What got you into teaching art?

I am a practising artist and teaching is an important part of who I am. I see the two going together.

What other passions do you have?

My interest in art is broad and I have a particular interest in contemporary art and the history of art. I enjoy bringing this knowledge to all the classes I teach.

Why should someone join your classes?

No matter what your background in art is, all are welcome to come and learn through trying things out, experimenting and being willing to know that sometimes mistakes lead onto better outcomes. Keep an open mind, and enjoy it!
