Gail Clements

What subjects do you teach?

I teach Level 1 and Level 2 Dog Grooming at Merrist Wood College.

How many years have you been teaching?

Three and a half years.

What do you enjoy about teaching adults?

I really enjoy teaching because when students arrive on day one, they know very little or nothing about dog grooming, but by the end of their time on the course with me they are capable of grooming a dog from start to finish.

I love seeing the growth of learning a new skill and giving them the tools and confidence to do this.

What got you into your chosen field?

I first discovered dog grooming when I got my cocker spaniel 14 years ago. She was a very relaxed dog for grooming and I enjoyed looking after her coat and maintaining her nails, ears and eyes. I then embarked on a 30-day course and, well, that was it! I was on the road to an enjoyable new career.

What other passions / interests do you have?

I have an enormous passion for all aspects of working with dogs from grooming to their health and behaviour. I have also shown my poodle at Crufts, which was a big achievement for us both.

I am also a very keen on art and craft which includes crochet, embroidery and resin work.

Why should someone join your classes?

I teach all aspects of dog grooming and my classes are very practical and hands-on. I have many years of grooming experience and the welfare of the dogs and the students are my main priority.
