Woodwork: Making a Serving platter and book stand

Course overview

This course also includes learning marking out skills, sawing and a little bit of the use of chisels. At the end of the course, you will go home with your own hand-made and individually designed serving platter and bookstand .

The course takes place in fully-equipped workshops in the renowned Rycotewood Furniture Centre, and all materials are provided.

Please note this course will not run during school holidays.

You will learn:

  • timber selection
  • sawing and planing
  • using a spokeshave
  • gluing and assembling
  • marking out
  • finishing and oiling
  • safely using a selection of hand tools

You will learn basic woodworking skills and gradually build up practical knowledge and confidence through workshop practice.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You only need enthusiasm and a passion for woodwork!

You are required to wear safety toe capped shoes whilst in the workshop and we strongly suggest full length trousers. 

There are aprons, goggles, and ear defenders in the workshop that you are able to use, but you can bring your own PPE if you prefer. It can get quite noisy at times.
