There are a limited number of FREE places available on this course, for those aged 19 and over (at the start of the course) and who either have a mental health condition or difficulty, are employed and earning an annual salary less than £17,004 per annum, in receipt of state benefit in your own name and unemployed or working and earning less than £338 per month (or £541 for household claims), are a single parent, or have a social or emotional difficulty. Spend a day discovering the basics of growing your own veg. At Merrist wood we believe growing your own vegetables has the power to change your life whether it be a patch of garden soil, allotment, patio pots or windowsill.
This course will explain the rudiments of growing your own vegetables including seed sowing, pricking out, planting out plugs, basic equipment needed and selection of suitable vegetables.
This very informative day is led by one of our horticulture tutors with many years experience who will guide you through a combination of theory and practical demonstrations from planning and tools, to considering what to grow and where, to seed sowing, pruning, pests and disease, this is the perfect introductory day for both the curious and committed.
The basics of starting vegetable growing, with helpful tips to set up your own vegetable plot.
A day of information and inspiration in the world of vegetables.
Please bring gardening gloves if you have them. Sturdy footwear as you will be working on the Nursery and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Lunch is not provided, you are more than welcome to bring your own lunch and drinks or alternatively visit one of our on-site catering outlets.
