Summer Introduction to Glass Fusing and Slumping: Create a Glass Fused Platter

Course overview

This workshop is an introduction to the wonders of working with glass. You will be introduced to the skills and techniques involved in glass fusing and slumping, transforming raw glass into stunning art pieces.

You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of glass materials including frits, confetti, glass powders and even melting stringers over a flame.

You will learn techniques to design your own sheet of art glass, which will then be used to form a slumped bowl or platter. Suitable moulds will be discussed and prepared for this process, as the technique will include two firings.

You’ll benefit from demonstrations and one-on-one guidance from our expert tutor, Shirley Eccles.


Please bring with you:

  • a sketchbook/notebook and pen
  • photos, patterns and pictures to use as inspiration
  • a dust mask
  • an apron
  • an old but clean dishcloth is useful
  • wear closed-toe shoes

All necessary materials will be provided.

This fee includes both firings and the use of moulds.

Collection of work: all projects will be taken away for firing in a kiln and will be returned to the teaching venue for collection.
