Simply Sewing your next garment

Course overview

If you have basic experience using your sewing machine and are looking to improve your sewing skills, then this course is perfect for you

This 6-weeks intermediate-level course is made for those who have already attended the Simply Sewing level 1 or for those who can use a sewing machine.

In this course you will learn how to follow a paper pattern to make a lady’s blouse. You will learn how to: insert collar, flat pockets and sleeves; work with fusible interlining, sew darts, top stitches, make buttonholes by machine, and manipulate a sleeve-pattern to create new styles.

By the end of the course you should have completed a toile (a garment made in calico fabric used to adjust the pattern). You will also have the opportunity to discuss ideas for future sewing projects.

You will learn through theoretical and practical sessions including key sewing and measuring techniques, garment adjustments, garment construction skills and pattern cutting alterations.

You will need a basic sewing kit: fabric scissors, paper scissors, pins, tape measure and un-picker. In addition, you will need a pencil and eraser.

You will be provided with 2 metres of Calico (included in your fee).

City of Oxford College offer a broad offer of Learning for Leisure courses to expand your creative skills.

This course will take place on six consecutive Thursday evenings from 6 pm until 8.30 pm.
