Simply Sewing Mixed Ability

Course overview

This course is suitable for both beginners and for those who want to extend their basic skills and be expressive with sewing. You will be encouraged to explore your own creative flair within the intricate practice of thread and needle.

By the end of this course, you will have learnt basic machine sewing skills and basic garment construction techniques. You will learn about pattern cutting, grading, machine sewing, seams and hems plus some embellishments including ruffles and shirring. There will be opportunities to simplify or develop your design depending on your confidence.

You will use the machines and construct your toile and samples with the guidance of our experienced tutor.

Please bring a basic sewing kit consisting of:

  • fabric scissors
  • small, paper scissors
  • pins
  • tailors chalk or a fabric pencil
  • a small reel of thread
  • hand sewing needles
  • tape measure
  • elastic (optional)

You will also need an A4 display book and sticky labels. This will be used to store your samples.

You will be provided with 2.5m of calico fabric.
