Course overview

Join us for a great introduction to machine sewing and making clothes for beginners! 

This course is also suitable for those wanting to extend their basic skills.

We encourage you to explore your own creative flair within the intricate practice of needle and thread!

This course will take place on six consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6pm until 8:30pm.

By the end of this course, you will have learnt basic machine sewing skills and basic garment construction techniques to make a pair of elasticated trousers with pockets.
 
You will learn pattern cutting, how to read a commercial pattern, machine sewing and how to alter your pattern to fit you properly.

You will learn through theoretical and practical sessions. These sessions include:

•Key sewing and measuring techniques
•Garment adjustments
•Simple garment construction skills
•How to work with easy fabrics

You will need a basic sewing kit:
  • fabric scissors
  • paper scissors
  • pins
  • tape measure
  • un-picker
 
In addition, you will need a notebook, pencil, eraser, and 2 meters of a fabric of your choice – we recommend an easy non stretch woven cotton or linen; if you are unsure or need any advice on fabric your tutor will be happy to help.
