RHS Principles of Garden Planning, Construction and Planting Level 3 Certificate
Course overview
This qualification provides a route to employment in professional horticulture by assessing knowledge of the principles underpinning horticultural practices and supports career developments for those already working in the profession. It also provides a foundation for further horticultural training.
Instruction is carried out by highly qualified tutors in the extensive ornamental grounds, plant nursery, woodlands and sports turf areas at the College. Merrist Wood has developed a considerable reputation for horticulture and for it’s award-winning gardens designed and built at RHS Flower Shows. The diverse range of plants in the College’s 400 acre estate, together with purpose-designed buildings, including lecture rooms, laboratories, library facilities and computer suites, all provide an ideal environment for horticulture students.
Theory lessons and demonstrations, held mainly in a classroom, laboratory or workshop.
If you are hoping to take the RHSQ written exams then you will need GCSE English at grade C or above. Also the RHS Level 2 Certification in the Principles of Horticulture or another Level 2 horticulture qualification is desirable. You may also benefit from some practical horticultural experience.
The RHS Level 3 Practical qualification or other Level 3 or Level 4 qualifications in subjects such as plant production, garden design, landscape construction or foundation degree courses. The RHS Level 3 Certificates are also recognised nationally and internationally and provide a route into careers in the horticultural industry.
Stout footwear is recommended for outdoor sessions. Current students have found that a camera is useful for keeping a records of plants and techniques studied on the course.
