Printmaking for Beginners

Course overview

This six-week printmaking course for beginners is perfect for anyone who wants to expand their creativity whilst learning a new skill. You will be introduced to mono printing and lino printing.

You will learn how a print studio is laid out, the materials and tools needed to make a variety of prints, and the two processes listed above. As this is a beginner’s class, it is best suited for someone who hasn’t done printmaking before or someone who would like to review and recap their skills.

You will learn mono printing, which is the process of making a print using marks, lines, or stencils. This technique can also be quite painterly.

You will also be introduced to lino-cutting tools and be taught how to make a lino print.

All of the prints will be A5 size.

This course will be held in the College.

There will be a short demonstration at the beginning of each technique. There will be continuous tutor interaction and support throughout the session.

At the end of the session there will be a recap of the learnings and an opportunity for feedback. Once prints are finished, they can be taken home.

You will need a pencil case with basic stationery, a sketchbook, a folder to transport your artwork, and an apron, or old clothes. You’ll also need ideas in the form of drawings, photographs and/or lots of inspiration and imagination!

You can progress to Printmaking Intermediate, which will be held at Bracknell and Wokingham College.

Please feel free to bring along a snack and a drink.
