Printmaking – Exploring Lino and Lithography
This 6-week course is perfect for anyone who has some knowledge of printmaking and wants to recap their skills or expand their knowledge by learning new techniques. You will be introduced to 2 colour multi-block lino and waterless lithography.
You will gain a new skills and spend time with other like-minded creative individuals.
You will learn how a print studio is laid out, the materials and tools needed to make a variety of prints, and the 2 processes listed above.
Following on from one colour lino printing, you will be introduced to 2 colour lino printing. The method that will be taught will be multi-block lino. This is when 2 blocks are cut to allow more freedom of colour.
A 2 colour multi-block will produce four colours:
- the paper
- first colour on paper
- second colour on paper
- second colour mixed with the first colour
The second technique is waterless lithography:
- this process is based on the idea that water and silicone don’t mix
- the non-image areas, called negative space, are left covered with a thin layer of silicone that acts as a resist, which then rejects the ink
- the ink only sticks to the drawn and painted areas on an aluminium plate
- all plates will be A5 size
There will be a short demo at the beginning of each technique and continuous tutor interaction and support throughout the session.
At the end of the lesson, there will be a recap of the learnings and an opportunity for feedback.
Once prints are finished, they can be taken home.
You will need a pencil case with basic stationery, a sketchbook, an apron and a folder to transport your artwork. Please bring ideas in the form of drawings and photographs along with lots of inspiration and imagination!
