Oxford Art Safari: Exploring Creativity in Summer: EXPERIMENTAL LIFE DRAWING
Course overview
Unleash your inner Picasso or Leonardo!
Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience, join us for a fun-filled day of life drawing from a live nude model. In this friendly and supportive workshop, with expert tutor Kat Ward, we will mix traditional and experimental techniques through a series of short, medium, and long poses using a range of materials and techniques.
You will learn different ways of viewing and depicting the figure working from a live model through a variety of timed poses. The afternoon session will have a longer sustained pose for a more considered approach. If you’re more experienced, you can further your abilities through practice and critiques.
You will expand your creative abilities through:
- Short drawing exercises that are designed to develop your hand-eye coordination and enhance your observational skills
- Use of different drawing materials using traditional and experimental techniques
- An opportunity to practise your skills and techniques learned through a more sustained pose during the afternoon session
- Some exercises may reference artists such as Frank Auerbach, Jenny Saville, Kathy Kollwitz, Egon Schiele or Alison Lambert
During the workshop, you will focus on techniques and materials in a practical, hands-on class that combines traditional life drawing practices with experimental drawing ideas and mediums. You will benefit from one-to-one critiques to guide you through the process.
Basic materials will be provided. However, we encourage you to bring any materials or equipment you may already own and wish to use.
