Course overview

OCTOBER START – SPECIFIC DATES WILL FOLLOW

The National Fashion&Business Saturday Club gives young people in years 9, 10 and 11 the unique opportunity to study Fashion and Business at Activate Learning.

We run an exciting programme enabling club members to explore a range of aspects of the fashion industry such as fashion illustration, pattern cutting, ethical fashion, and designing. Looking at Fashion through different lenses, from marketing to construction, club members get to work alongside our industry specialist, as well as use workshops to develop their own designs, produce garments and develop ideas.

National Fashion&Business Saturday Club is FREE and places go to students who want to expand their creative skills and are committed to attending on Saturday mornings from October to March!

The club is equally suitable for boys and girls of all abilities interested in fashion and business. The aim is to nurture young people’s talent and build their confidence and self-esteem.

The fashion business is an important part of the UK’s creative industries, and its supply chains provide 880,000 jobs in a wide range of sub-sectors, which range from materials technology and trend forecasting to fashion journalism and retail management. This industry is a great British success story, generating £28 billion for the economy each year. All materials, equipment and educational visit costs for this course will be covered by the college.

Please note: by enrolling to a National Saturday Club at Activate Learning, you will be part of the National Saturday Club, taking place across the UK. We will be required to share the data of those enrolled with the National Saturday Club for administrative purposes.

The Club offers members the chance to explore their creativity, learn new skills and get to know the college environment. A variety of workshops mean that you can explore a range of textile-design approaches, including tie-dye, appliqué, batik, screenprinting and embellishment.

Club members will receive 35 hours of expert tuition which includes the opportunity to take part in a wide range of stimulating activities based in Reading College’s specialist facilities, workshops and studios.

There are no formal assessments for this course

 

National Fashion&Business Saturday Club is FREE and places go to students who want to expand their creative skills and are committed to every Saturday morning throughout the Autumn and Spring term.

All materials, equipment and educational visit costs for this course will be covered by the college.

This course will nurture your talent, build your confidence and self-esteem, while providing you insight into college life. You will be better prepared for a pathway into further and higher education and to careers in the creative industries.
