Course overview

There are a limited number of FREE places available on this course, for those aged 19 and over (at the start of the course) and who either have a mental health condition or difficulty, are employed and earning an annual salary less than £17,004 per annum, in receipt of state benefit in your own name and unemployed or working and earning less than £338 per month (or £541 for household claims), are a single parent, or have a social or emotional difficulty. The Ascentis Level 1 Award in Introduction to Forest School Principles provides learners with an introduction to the Forest School ethos and learning in the outdoors.

  • gain skills and learning of life in the outdoors
  • prepare learners for further study and employment in the outdoors
  • gain continuing professional development
  • become a Forest School Programme Leader

The four learning outcomes are:

  • understand the Forest School approach to learning
  • be able to participate in a Forest School experience
  • understand the methods of identification of woodland species
  • understand the impact of Forest School on the woodland environment
  • understand hazards at Forest School

What you will need to bring:

  • Sturdy footwear/ wellies
  • Sun ha / sunscreen/ waterproof clothing (depending on the weather)
  • Suggest you wear long trousers and a long-sleeved top as you will be walking through the woods
  • Insect repellent if you are prone to bites
  • A mug, you will be making tea/coffee on the fire pit
  • A notebook and pen/pencil
