Floral Decorations for Special Occasions

Course overview

This is a five week course looking at creating floral designs that can be used in many different celebratory events such as weddings and parties. These “On Trend” designs will wow your family and friends using a variety of seasonal flowers and foliages and using different mediums and containers.

Suitable for those interested in floral design and floristry, either newcomers or those with some previous experience and a passion and enthusiasm for flowers.

This enables learners to leave with a unique and personalised arrangement. Taught by expert teaching staff who provide an excellent standard of training.

Throughout this course, you will learn a variety of techniques per week, including:

  • Week 1: table runner vegetative style
  • Week 2: small pedestal style design
  • Week 3: hand tie design
  • Week 4: tall table centre
  • Week 5: seasonal wreath

You will learn through practical hands-on session and demonstrations.

To create your flower arrangements, you will be required to bring the following objects to each weekly session:

Week 1: table runner vegetative style

  • 10–15 stems of seasonal flowers, such as, Iris, Tulip, Narcissus, Freesia, Hyacinth Helleborus, Muscari
  • small seasonal foliage, like, Pinus, Eucalyptus, Cypresses, Tree Ivy, Pittosporum, Euonymus, Hebe
  • miniature decorations
  • a notebook and pen
  • scissors and a knife

Week 2: small pedestal style design

  • 12–15 flower mix of four Roses, four Carnations, four Freesia and three tall flowers, either Antirrinum or Iris
  • small and tall stem foliage, like, Pittosporum, Ruscus, Euonymus, Eucalyptus
  • plastic cube or bulb bowl
  • scissors and a knife
  • oasis

Week 3: hand tie design

  • 15–20 flower such as, Roses, Carnations, Germini, spray chrysanthemum Eustoma, Spray Dianthus, Freesia
  • three stem filler flowers, such as, wax flower, Gypsophlia, Aster
  • foliage, like, Ruscus, Eucalyptus, Pittosporum
  • string
  • ribbon or Raffia Scissors

Week 4: tall table centre

  • 10–15 flowers, such as, Roses, Carnations, Germini, Eustoma, Spray Dianthus, Freesia
  • two stem filler flowers, such as, wax flower, Gypsophlia, Aster
  • foliage, like, Ruscus, Eucalyptus, Pittosporum
  • large leaves, like Ivy
  • small plastic container to fit on top of the vase
  • cellophane
  • tall vase
  • scissors

Week 5: seasonal wreath

  • 15-20 flowers, such as, Roses, Tulips, Iris, Hyacinth, Helleborus, Freesia, Muscari
  • foliage, like, Eucalyptus, Viburnum, Pittosporum, Ruscus, Euonymus, Moss
  • 12 inch wreath frame
  • scissors and a knife
