Please contact us before applying so we can ensure this is the right course for you.

If you are employed and/or not receiving benefits, please enrol on Cycle Mechanics Level 1.

This five-day course is the perfect introduction to bicycle mechanics. You will develop some of the key skills and understanding in building, servicing, repairing, and maintaining all types of cycles.

This course features:

  • City & Guilds Cycle Mechanics level 1 (two days of practical training), covering such areas as gear disassembly and reassembly, puncture repair, and conducting comprehensive safety checks.
  • Cytech Theory One qualification (two days of self-study online).
  • Employability training (one day).

This course is suitable for anyone wanting to work in the bicycle industry who wants an accredited introduction to cycle maintenance.

Please note: This programme is taught at The Colin Sanders Business Innovation Centre and not our main Banbury campus.

You will learn, develop, and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the cycle maintenance and building sector.

Topics include:

  • Puncture repair and inner tube replacement
  • Rim brake removal, refitting, and adjustment
  • Basic gear-system removal and refitting
  • Comprehensive safety checks
  • Health and safety in the workshop
  • British standards for selling new bikes
  • Employability skills

Ideally, you will already have a very basic knowledge of cycles and hand tools. This course will build on your existing cycle mechanics experience. For example, doing basic maintenance on your own bike(s).

All tools, equipment, and PPE are provided in the workshop.

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty; there is a risk of getting messy while working on bikes.

You can progress to a Level 2 Cycle Mechanics course or Cytech Level 2.
