Community Wellbeing: Community Craft Café at The Leys
Course overview
Where Creativity Meets Community
Nestled in the heart of The Leys at City of Oxford College’s Technology Campus, our Community Craft Café is a vibrant hub where creativity meets traditional arts and crafts, and community comes together.
From knitting to creating seasonal decorations like fabric flowers, or wreaths to drawing, our regularly scheduled workshops cater to all skill levels and interests.
We believe that creativity knows no boundaries. Our café is a welcoming space where our experienced and skilled local tutors and local community members can come together to explore, learn, and create. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a curious beginner, there’s a place for you at our table. These are craft classes with a difference!
Craft. Connect. Create.
The Community Craft Cafe is part of Activate Learning’s Community Wellbeing offer and aims to boost confidence and improve mental and emotional wellbeing. The sessions provide a wonderful opportunity to explore creativity, learn new techniques, and enjoy the power of expressing yourself through arts and crafts. You’ll benefit from a supportive and inclusive environment, connecting with others who share your interest. Our expert tutors Denise Berley and/or Patrice McBarnett will be on hand to offer support and encouragement throughout.
The group size ensures personalised attention and feedback. You can share your work, gain insights from others, and develop your skills in a collaborative atmosphere. Each session is interactive and hands-on, giving you plenty of opportunities to practice and refine your techniques.
We’ll be offering a 2-hour session on Wednesdays from 11am-1 pm, and you can attend as many of the sessions as you wish!
2025 Dates: 23, 30 April, 7,14,21 May, 4,11,18, 25 June.
Our experienced tutors will demonstrate a wide variety of skills that will help you bring your craft ideas and projects to life. These will include knitting, crocheting and decorations for the home. You’ll be encouraged to expand your creativity by producing your own imaginative craft work, combining the skills that you have developed.
Basic materials will be provided. However, we encourage you to bring along any materials or equipment you may already own and wish to incorporate in your creations.
Once your confidence has grown, there are many options for you to consider. Activate Learning offers a wide variety of art courses, diplomas and degrees you can progress to, should you wish to pursue a career in the Creative Industries or simply explore your skills further. Let us help you realise your full potential!
