Community Learning Online: Photography

Course overview

Find a different way of engaging with the people you meet with this online course. You will be welcomed to this ‘drop-in’ style club, with fresh ideas and content each week.

No experience is needed! If your camera has lots of ‘bells and whistles’ we will explain what you need to know and improve your pictures, while not overwhelming you with the technology. Smartphones can produce amazing pictures too.

Every session will have a focus provided by the tutor, while being adapted to suit your learning needs. If you have something in particular that you are interested in, then let us know a week in advance and we will do our best to cover it.

You are welcome to join all or any of the following Monday evenings, from 6:30–7:30pm:

2022

  • 3, 10, 17, 31 October
  • 7, 14, 21, 28 November
  • 5, 12 December

2023

  • 16, 23, 30 January
  • 6, 20, 27 February

  • storytelling through pictures
  • Documentaries
  • conceptual photography
  • capturing pets, animals and nature
  • creative street and travel photography
  • critiquing, photo-books and zines

Each week, you will learn theory that will underpin your photography, this will be recorded, so you can look back in your own time. You will reflect on inspiring photographs and the opportunity to share one or two of your own photographs (don’t worry if you don’t have any yet; and you won’t be forced to if you’d rather not).

As the group is small, you will have plenty of opportunity to share ideas and ask questions in an informal and friendly atmosphere. The emphasis is on enjoyable learning, so there will be no competition or judging. Also, there will be some suggested light reading or a video for encouragement to grow beyond the class.
