Community Wellbeing — Introduction to Painting and Drawing

Course overview

Experience the joy of drawing and painting in a relaxed environment! This course allows you to learn and create art within a community.

You are welcome to join all or any term-time Mondays from 1-3pm. This course runs from 30 September 2024 to 23 June 2025.

Our Community Wellbeing Programme offers a series of free, government-funded courses to develop skills, knowledge, and confidence, and improve mental wellbeing for adults aged 19 and over (at the start of the course). Participation can help those managing mental health conditions that have a mild-moderate impact on their day-to-day lives. By taking part in Wellbeing Programmes, individuals will receive support in progressing their creative skills and interests to the next level as well as tools to help manage wellbeing on a daily basis. For further details and terms and conditions please view our Community Wellbeing page.

 

During this course, you will learn:

  • through developing your existing skills using traditional methods of mark making
  • painting techniques for expressive painting
  • to create linear drawings
  • how to use tone to create depth in an image
  • to create effective compositions and use colour to contrast and compliment
  • ways to employ mixed media for interesting artworks

This course welcomes experienced and beginner artists.

You will learn through a mixture of explanation and demonstration. Exercises in independent and group activities will allow for you to use many approaches and techniques.

Also, peer support and one to one guidance will assist you in your artistic journey.
