Ceramics for Young People

Course overview

Working in clay is great for taking time out of your busy life! Forget about your worries as you concentrate on your masterpiece.

We will introduce you to handmade techniques such as pinch pots, slab work, coiling and surface decoration.

To get started, you will be given a demonstration of the pottery techniques to be used in the session by our knowledgeable ceramics tutor. You will then be able to create your own unique piece using the technique you have been shown.

These workshops are also great if you are thinking of, or are taking GCSE Art and want to expand your artistic skills and knowledge of materials.

You might also be interested in our ‘Wheel Throwing for Young People’ after school workshops that also run on a Wednesday.

At the end of the course, you will have a great sense of achievement and will feel proud of what you have accomplished, hopefully making some new friends along the way.

You will also get to take home your own kiln fired and glazed handmade pieces!

No previous experience of working in clay is necessary. Basic Materials will be provided.

It could get messy so we suggest that you do not wear your best clothes!
However, we do provide aprons.

After you have completed this course, you could join our Junior or National Saturday Club, or our Pottery / Wheel throwing for young people class!

The groups are friendly and informal with a maximum of 12 learners so that you can be provided with ample support and encouragement.

Your finished glazed ceramic creations will be ready to collect from the College two to four weeks after the workshop to allow for the work to be fired in our professional studio kilns.
