Advanced Photography

Course overview

This course is suitable for learners who have attended Intermediate Photography classes, or who have previous photography experience at a similar level.

The course will focus on practical activities to further develop your technical understanding and practical skills.

You will learn advanced camera controls, exposure modes, and develop more complex studio and location lighting techniques.

You will also receive a thorough introduction to photographic theory and genre conventions.

There is also the opportunity to specialise in the areas of photography that interest you the most and give and receive feedback regarding photographic challenges set to the class.

You will learn through a combination of theory and practical lessons, supported by informative demonstrations.

Our supportive, expert tutors will guide you in the learning and practice of new techniques.

You will develop your skills of knowledge of advanced photography. For example, on this course you will study:

  • shutter drag, hyperfocal focusing, advanced exposure modes, and perspective control
  • knowledge of advanced studio and natural lighting set-ups
  • how to work to a third-party brief

You will also create a broad ranging photography portfolio.

You will need an interchangeable lens camera, DSLR or mirrorless camera.

You can progress onto specialist workshops or the NCFE Certificate in Photography.
